Farmers to Hold Round Table Meeting Over Neglect in Flood Relief Allocation

Farmers to Hold Round Table Meeting Over Neglect in Flood Relief AllocationKarnataka State Raitha Karmikara Seva Sangh calls for action against Centre’s “discriminatory” relief policyKalaburagi: The Karnataka State Raitha Karmikara Seva Sangh has strongly condemned the Central Government for what it termed as a stepmotherly attitude towards Karnataka’s farmers affected by recent floods and heavy rains in the Kalyana Karnataka region, particularly Kalaburagi, Bidar, and Yadgiri districts.Despite widespread crop loss and destruction of homes and livestock due to overflowing rivers such as Amarja, Bhima, Benne Thore, and Gandori Nala, the Centre sanctioned only ₹385 crore to Karnataka under NDRF/SDRF, compared to ₹1,558 crore released to Maharashtra. Agricultural officials estimate losses in Kalaburagi district alone at ₹600 crore. The organization accused BJP MPs and MLAs from the region of remaining silent and urged them to press the Centre for fair relief and join farmers’ protests if necessary. It also demanded that the State Government release the ₹2,000 crore relief fund already announced, warning that delays could affect the next sowing season.Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has reportedly assured that compensation for losses across 12.5 lakh hectares will be distributed within a week.To decide the next course of action, the Sangh has called a round table meeting of farmer leaders on November 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Kannada Bhavan, Kalaburagi, urging farmers to participate in large numbers.
